ACPHD Issues Measles Health Advisory April 10, 2019 General Alameda County, Measles, Public Health On Monday, April 8, 2019, the Alameda County Public Health Department issued a measles health advisory. ACPHD alerted the public to a possible measles exposure when an individual infections for measles visited a Livermore restaurant on 3/23/19 (to read our news item, click here). The Public Health Department warns that new cases can develop in the 7-21 days following exposure. ACPHD also addressed the rising number of measles cases; in March 2019 alone, there have been 13 reported cases of measles in Northern California. Clinicians are asked to consider measles in patients who present with a rash and fever, regardless of patient's travel history. Health care providers should also ask patients to call ahead if they have fever and a rash so that facilities can take adequate precautions to isolate the patient upon arrival. Staff should be trained to immediately implement airborne precautions if measles is suspected. Suspected measles cases should immediately be reported to the county health department.
